Hate speech became widespread over the past year. Fight against hate speech and restoration of honor and dignity has often ended up in courts. Pastinfo had a talk on this topic with Concern Dialog Law Firm’s Partner, Advocate Narine Beglaryan.
Is there any statistics available on the numbers of claims filed in 2019 seeking restoration of honor and dignity? Did that number fall or exceed that of the previous years?
As of this moment I cannot talk about the figures, as I haven’t conducted any research in that regard. I do not think there is anyone who separately maintain any statistics for that. We may further try to make inquiries to the judicial department to find out whether they have exact figures or not. In the discussion with the partners we feel that recently there has been an increase in the number of cases concerning defamation and insult both in the proceedings of courts and advocates.
