The Intensive Course 'From Detention to Alternative Measures: Defense Tactics' Was Successfully Held

On May 29, the Russian-Armenian University (RAU) hosted a one-day intensive course on criminal procedure titled "From Detention to Alternative Measures: Defense Tactics." This important professional initiative was designed and conducted by the leading experts of Concern Dialog Law Firm.

The primary objective of the training was to introduce participants to the nuances, modern approaches, and prevailing challenges of applying preventive measures under the new legislative framework, seamlessly blending deep theoretical insights with exceptional practical experience and defense strategy techniques.

Course Launch and Key Topics

The course commenced with opening remarks by Sergey Marabyan, Partner, Head of the Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure Practice at Concern Dialog and attorney, who presented the agenda, introduced the speakers, and outlined the main objectives of the day.

The first presentation was also delivered by Sergey Marabyan, who provided an in-depth analysis of "The Nuances of Applying Detention as a Preventive Measure." Drawing from his 10 years of extensive experience as a former criminal court judge—including his tenure at the Anti-Corruption Court of Appeal and subsequently as a judge at the Anti-Corruption Chamber of the Court of Cassation—he shared the subtle intricacies and problematic aspects of judicial practice with the participants.

Next, Areg Yolchyan, Associate at Concern Dialog, Lecturer at the Chair of Criminal Procedure and Criminalistics of the YSU Faculty of Law, and PhD student, presented the topic "House Arrest as an 'Alternative to Deprivation of Liberty': Current Key Issues," analyzing the practical effectiveness and legislative gaps of this institution.

The morning session concluded with a presentation by Anahit Arakelyan, Associate, Attorney, and Lecturer at the Chair of Criminal Law of the YSU Faculty of Law, and PhD student, which was dedicated to the topic "Administrative Supervision: Modern Approaches and Challenges."

The second part of the training kicked off with a presentation by Svetlana Mkrtchyan, Associate, Attorney, and Master's student at RAU. Following this, Areg Yolchyan took the floor once again to address "Prohibition of Absence and Guarantee: Traditional Preventive Measures Under the New Legislative Reality."

The theoretical and analytical segment of the course was wrapped up by Sergey Marabyan, who presented the topic "Educational and Military Supervision as Preventive Measures Applied to Special Subjects."
